Oldest Golfing Union

The Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) is one of the oldest in the world, founded back in 1891. It now has four branches, split within the provincial areas of Leinster, Connacht, Ulster and Munster. You will find the headquarters of the GUI positioned within the grounds of Carton House in County Kildare.

Highest European Tour Attendance

Back in 2012, there was a record attendance at the Royal Portrush Golf Club for the Irish Open with 112,000 people arriving over the space of four days. The tour was sold out way in advance and was the highest attendance recorded for a European event.

Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Seve Ballesteros and Colin Montgomerie all won the Irish Open on three separate occasions. Nick Faldo is the only person to have won the event three years in a row from 1991 – 1993.
